Locum Zone - What We Do

Open has specialised in Optical locum for many years and has evolved to the unique requirements that it presents. Locum is a highly competitive and faced paced environment, typically we handle about 400 locum assignments every day, many of them urgent and it requires a great deal of organisation and expertise from our locum team to ensure the smooth running and efficiency on a day to day basis that our clients have come to expect and trust.

Open Locums

We offer a free registration and job finding service to our locum candidates, you are able to register online or over the phone. The registration process is simple, we will ask for your GOC number, home address, contact telephone numbers, Email address, geographical locations that are suitable for you to work in, and dates that you are looking for work, also your current testing time and if you are able to fit contact lenses.

We work closely with the GOC to ensure the highest of standards are maintained and as matter of course your GOC number will be confirmed. Please be assured that all information provided is held in the strictest confidence. Once you are registered as an Open locum, you will be assigned your own Locum Consultant who will become your regular point of contact, you will receive a detailed welcome letter, newsletters, and of course up to date information on locum vacancies in your area, to make the vacancy information as appropriate as possible we do ask that you update your availability calendar regularly with us.

Open Clients

Open has a large locum client base and we pride ourselves on the excellent response rate and relationships that we have developed within this market. Thanks to our state of the art systems we are usually able to react swiftly to most requirements from probably the largest database of optical locums in the UK. To register a requirement either complete the online form or call our locum team, obviously the sooner we know about a staffing shortfall the easier it is to find a temporary replacement and we can arrange this quite a long time in advance to give you peace of mind!

Typically we will ask you the practice name and address, contact name and number, the day rate you are paying, which days you require cover, the hours of work for those days and any special skills you need. We ask you to pay the locum direct and we charge you a pre-agreed set daily fee upon completion of the days worked.
